Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Surgery

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reshape the breasts, addressing issues such as sagging or drooping. Unlike breast augmentation, which focuses on increasing breast size, a breast lift primarily focuses on improving breast position and contour.

During a breast lift procedure, the surgeon will make incisions on the breasts to remove excess skin, reposition the nipple and areola, and reshape the breast tissue. The specific incision pattern will depend on the extent of sagging and the desired outcome. Common incision patterns include:

1. Anchor or inverted T-shaped incision: This incision is made around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease.

2. Lollipop (keyhole) incision: The breast crease is reached by making this incision around the areola and down vertically from the areola.

3. Periareolar incision: This incision is made around the edge of the areola.

Through these incisions, the surgeon will lift and reshape the breast tissue, reposition the nipple and areola to a more youthful position, and remove any excess skin. In some cases, the surgeon may also resize and reshape the areola if desired.

A breast lift does not significantly change the size of the breasts but rather improves their shape and position. However, a breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation if the individual desires both lifting and increased volume.
